Fourth of July Fireworks

Happy Fourth of July!

As an second generation Indian-American, I am really proud and appreciative of life in the US and all the freedoms offered. I get angry at Americans who take the benefits of our lives for granted. You just have to pause to think of how many people all over the world are struggling, dreaming and working hard to come to the US. So many risk their lives to step upon American ground.

As a nation of immigrants, there is something definitely different in the American vein - more risk-takers, more dreamers who actually climb over the walls that confine. This has lead to our success as a country of entrepreneurs, industrialists and artists, just to name a few.

Today, however, I'm feeling more than saddened by the Bush administration. The corruption, secrecy, lack of integrity and value of basic human rights is rampant. Bush is ignoring the checks and balances that are the foundation of this government. Yesterday's clemency toward Scooter Libby just infuriated me. I don't know when history has seen such a man blatantly abuse the powers of his office.

I've removed the actual text I had previously posted and just linking to Declaration of Independence here.

Great post! Sometimes it takes living abroad to see the freedoms and greatness for this country. I know it did with me, not that I ever put down the US, but I took it for granted. Now that I'm back I am more patriotic (not pro Bush) and it really disturbs me to see other fellow Americans not only take life here for granted, but actually protest against the lifestyle here as if it is much better in a dictatorship or strictly mono theistic society.
Too bad they all can' go away for a few years with the thought of not returning.

Sigh. I share your sentiments. My counter has been set...I now count down the hours as to when this jacka's will leave office and someone else can come into power and right the wrong which he has created. My voice lies in a vote. A vote which I will proudly cast in November of next year.

I found this line in an article that I read today...it rings the same sentiment...

" Since 1776, on every July Fourth, the Declaration of Independence has been posted in public places, published in newspapers and read aloud. Its bill of particulars contains these two passages defining royal tyranny and justifying revolution:

He has obstructed the Administration of Justice by refusing his Assent to Laws for establishing Judiciary Powers. ... For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments.

Happy Fourth. "

That's so funny you said that. My original plan was to highlight portions that related to our own "King George" but it got too cumbersome.. Here's more:

For depriving us in many cases, of the benefit of Trial by Jury:

For transporting us beyond Seas to be tried for pretended offences:

For taking away our Charters, abolishing our most valuable Laws and altering fundamentally the Forms of our Governments:
